Black and White

My mother used rapidograph pens a lot when I was young. She was a technical illustrator and was always shaking her pen to get the ink down. When I was a child, I acquired some of her old pens, which I too shook to get a clean flow of ink. As a result, I had almost permanent black stains on my middle finger from ink leakage. The random, spontaneous patterns of this picture have slotted together to form something which flows like blood-cells and wafts like cilia…

It’s amazing where a doodle can take you!
